SMC® Signs the Armed Forces Covenant Pledging to be an Armed Forces-Friendly Organisation
Oct. 28, 2019
Security Monitoring Centres Limited (SMC®) has signed the Armed Forces Covenant, a promise that those who serve or have served, and their families, are treated fairly. By signing the covenant, SMC pledges to be an Armed Forces-friendly organisation. SMC is a part of Carrier, a leading global provider of innovative heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC), refrigeration, fire, security and building automation technologies.
SMC offers valuable employment, training and flexible working arrangements to those who have served their country, relatives of those who are currently serving, or those who might be reservists who need time away to fulfil their military obligations. When an individual leaves the armed forces, SMC will assist potential recruits’ transition into civilian life, through forums, meetings, recruitment sites, and/or breakfast clubs where SMC can showcase career opportunities for ex-service personnel to work in their business.
The Armed Forces Covenant aims to support military spouses with their job-seeking through The Army Families Federation, in conjunction with the Naval and RAF Families' Federations, which have come together to create ‘Forces Families Jobs’, a ‘one stop shop’ where spouses and family members of UK Armed Forces military personnel can apply for jobs directly with employers who have signed the Armed Forces Covenant.
“SMC welcomes this opportunity, which is only available to those who have signed the Armed Forces Covenant,” said Colin Walters, managing director of SMC. “We are able to promote our organisation, advertise job vacancies and access a large, highly skilled candidate database of working Armed Forces family members from the Services.”
SMC® Completes Major Upgrade of its Alarm Receiving Centre
Sept. 17, 2019
Security Monitoring Centres Limited (SMC®) has completed a major refurbishment and re-fit of its Nottingham-based Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) to better deliver a complete, nationwide intruder, CCTV and fire monitoring solution - all under the same roof. SMC is a part of Carrier, a leading global provider of innovative heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC), refrigeration, fire, security and building automation technologies.
SMC’s monitoring centre has been upgraded and expanded to include new servers, computers and screens, including an impressive video wall that forms the centrepiece of the new installation. The entire IT infrastructure has also been replaced to further enhance the reliability and integrity of the systems installed.
As well as the technology, careful thought was given to the working environment, with ergonomically-designed seating and desks for up to 72 operators and lighting, to combat the potentially damaging effects of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).
“With almost a quarter of a million intruder, CCTV and fire monitoring connections, SMC already has a deserved reputation for the quality of services we provide,” said Colin Walters, Managing Director of SMC. “Following this upgrade, we will be able to extend the services of this state-of-the art facility to both existing and new customers.”
